Origin of rosehip oil

Rosehip oil is obtained from the seeds of a shrub called Rosa rubiginosa or Rosa eglanteria. It originates from Eastern Europe, but is widespread in Africa, America and Asia.

Do not confuse this oil with rose petal essential oil, which is obtained by evaporating the flowers of the rosa damascena or rosa centifolia.

Properties and benefits of rosehip oil

Rosehip oil is perfect for skin care because it is very rich in vitamins A, C and E, natural antioxidants such as retinol that fight free radicals and help delay skin ageing, saturated fatty acids (palminic and stearic) and polyunsaturated essential fatty acids (omega 3, omega 6 and linoleic) that are involved in the permeability of the epidermal barrier.

Rosehip oil has the following properties:

• Repairing. It is a powerful cell regenerator, attenuates and prevents stretch marks in pregnancy, softens skin blemishes caused by sun exposure, skin ulcers, scars and burns, minimises marks on the skin, reduces acne marks, rosacea and repairs even baby skin. Helps the formation of collagen and elastic fibres.
• Firming. Tightens the epidermis. Revitalises the cells of the deepest layers, fortifies the cells responsible for the elasticity and firmness of the skin.
• Moisturising. Deeply nourishes the skin and promotes even skin tone. Keeps the skin smooth and soft, reduces water loss in the skin.
• Anti-inflammatory and soothing. Stimulates blood circulation, tones tired skin and calms redness in the skin.
• Antioxidant and anti-aging. Reduces wrinkles and premature ageing of the skin, it is a powerful anti-ageing ingredient.

How do I use rosehip oil?

If you want to incorporate rosehip oil into your beauty routine, a small amount should be applied to clean skin and massaged in an upward circular motion until it is absorbed. It should preferably be used at night and on a daily basis for best results.

We recommend that it is stored in a dark bottle, away from light and any source of heat. Once the bottle is opened, it should be kept in the refrigerator.

Cosmetic uses of rosehip oil

Rosehip oil is used in natural and vegan cosmetics in lip balms, hand creams, anti-stretch mark creams, facial creams, gels, cleansing milks and body lotions, but it is also sold as pure rosehip oil. Rosehip oil can be of organic or eco origin.

It is also used to provide growth and good appearance to eyelashes as well as to strengthen nails.
