Shampoo bars are the new trend in the world of cosmetics. It is a new and revolutionary product. In this blog we tell you how to use it and why you should buy one, we encourage you to keep reading!
A shampoo bar is shampoo in the form of a soap bar, like the one used to wash your hands, but for washing your hair. It does not contain alcohol, so it does not dry out the hair and each bar lasts between 80 and 100 washes. In addition, it is a zero waste, vegan and cruelty free product!
Shampoo bars respect the scalp, cleanse and heal it, restore its balance and prevent dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis or irritation. However, liquid shampoo cleanses “so well” that it kills the natural lipids of our skin and scalp, altering our natural protection, penetrating the skin barrier and can cause irritation.
Shampoo bars require less water in their preparation and therefore it is not necessary to add parabens, emulsifiers, silicones or sulfates. All of these are used in most liquid shampoos in the conventional cosmetics market and can cause irritation or damage the skin.
One of the great advantages of shampoo bars is that they are very beneficial to the environment because excessive use of plastics is avoided in its packaging. Instead, biodegradable and sustainable materials such as kraft paper or recycled cardboard are used.
The use of a shampoo bar is more eco-friendly, which translates into saving money and reducing the carbon footprint, i.e. emitting less CO2 into the environment. Keep in mind that only 100 grams of this type of shampoo is equivalent to 3 bottles of 250 ml liquid shampoo! In addition, it leaves no residues and avoids plastic consumption, helping to reduce the 552 million bottles of shampoo discarded each year!
Another benefit of shampoo bars is that they take up very little space in your toiletry bag or vanity case and it’s even better to carry them with you on your travels and everywhere you go, it’s super practical!
The first and most important thing is to choose a good shampoo bar and you may wonder “how do I do it?” Well, it should have a high concentration of sulfate-free surfactants, which are the substances that separate oil and dirt from the hair. But how do I know that? This basically means that when you dampen it, it lathers and is soft. The surfactants allowed in organic cosmetics are Sodium Coco-Sulfate, also known as SCS and Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate or SCI. Those used in shampoo bars are usually surfactants derived from coconut, of vegetable origin, totally biodegradable. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate, which are normally used in conventional shampoos, have a tendency to cause unfavorable reactions on the scalp.
Once you have chosen the shampoo bar that best suits your needs the next step is to know how to apply it, we explain how below:
Shampoo bars are suitable for all hair types, you only have to choose between the different formulas that exist in the market for normal, dry, weak, delicate, damaged, curly, colored, greasy hair or for people with hair problems (psoriasis, flaking, dermatitis…).
